We conduct white water rafting on the river Kundalika near Kolad on the Mumbai Goa highway. In the absence of true white water, we have organized this activity at predetermined timings on the flow of the waters released from the dam at Bhire. The resultant “white-water” is not just thrilling, but we have been able to study it well from the point of view of safety. The added advantage is that this location is about a two hour drive from both Mumbai and Pune.
We use a stretch of around 12 km of the river which takes around an hour to complete. This includes 12 rapids and has a section of convenient backwaters at the start for the initial training. The rafts are all up to world safety standards and seat 7 - 8 people, depending on their bodyweight. The navigators are well trained and have extensive experience on the various rivers in India and Nepal. Due to the release of the dam waters early in the morning, the programme is organized over two days as it is not practical to arrive on time otherwise.
Accomodation will be organized at a resort near location on a triple sharing basis.
Day 1:
Leave Mumbai at 2pm and we reach the resort at about 5pm. Welcome tea, snacks and a short introduction is followed by the allotment of rooms. An early dinner is followed by campfun.
Day 2:
We wake up early at 5am with bed tea and leave for the rafting site by 5:30. once at the site, life vests, helmets paddles and rafts are allotted to the participants and they are taken to a training area for the basic instruction. This is immediately followed by the rafting route. We have tea and refreshments as we dry out and return to the resort in time to change and freshen up for lunch.
A little free time or an organized game can fit in here. We have tea and snacks around 3:30 and leave by 4pm to reach Mumbai by 7pm.
