This region comes into the mention of history for the first time in the 4th century BC. Sopara (Nalasopara) and Kalyan were the two ancient ports that did trade with Greece and Middle East. A trade route connecting these two centers passed through this area. The Buddhist rock cut caves at Kanheri also served as resting points on this journey.Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.
