Chapter 1 - Introduction

1 - 1 What this book is

This book has been created to serve as a guide to outdoor enthusiasts planning a high altitude trek. This book is based loosely on the queries for information I get from clients and I thought that it might be a good idea to put them all together so that I can simply point the curious to it and give them food for thought based on other people's questions as well. Since this book will contain information related with high altitude, trekking, packing, buying, planning, and what ever angles come up, this book also has the potential to be useful for other kinds of trips, like high altitude travel or safaris, or treks in other regions..... If it helps you, great. If you have suggestions, do let me know.

1 - 2 What this book is not

This book is not intended to be absolutely comprehensive. It caters more to the 'want to know" rather than an all encompassing guide. It certainly is not the ultimate truth, and I could be wrong, or could have missed out stuff, in which case, your feedback could help countless other people. Feel free to let me know.

1 - 3 Credit

This book is born from the enquiries I receive from people about treks, but particularly one person - Vijay Tase who is going for a trek to Kalindikhal in July - are you reading, Vijay? His enthusiastic queries and careful research and his appreciation of the information he received made me realize the value of this information to someone who may not know.

Thank you Vijay, and ask on as much as you want.
