Outdoor Education and Adventure
Schools today are becoming increasingly aware of outdoor education as an empowering option for increasing personal and interpersonal awareness among students, interest in the natural world, and developing s sense of responsibility and self-management.
Outdoor education is about behavioural learnings from active experiences in the outdoors. It is about doing things and testing their relevance in practical life, it is about broadening horizons through personal experiences that stretch our abilities and make a deep emotional impact.
Wide Aware has a deep interest in working with students in the outdoors. To this end, we offer a variety of outbound programmes for students, which can be offered in increasing levels to the various standards in schools, colleges and other educational institutions, to encourage an evolving and lasting attitude toward being aware about the world we live in, and the people we live among.
Wide Aware also conducts a variety of outbound raining programmes for teachers that help bridge the gap between the childhood of their time, and their students today. In these programmes, we explore communication, authority, discipline, responsibility, conflict management, adding value, and many other subjects that are the need from education today. Teachers have a great amount of interest in “teaching at their best” but are often and unconsciously trapped in preformatted, knee-jerk methods of managing it. This programme hopes to explore choices available to the teachers, their potential, and implications.
The different programmes we conduct for students are:
- One day nature trip for youngsters
- One day nature trail and environmental information and debates for slightly older students
- Introductory adventure – rappelling
- Introductory adventure – rock climbing
- Introductory adventure – rafting (15 years and older)
